Maybe "holisitic" is actually a clever portmanteau of "holy" and "parasitic" ? Would actually be a very good descriptor for a lot of these post-Goop companies.

If you’re of an age (born 1954 to 1965) and tired of the terrible branding of Boomers (responsible for all the ills in the world), just clarify you are Generation Jones. Like Prince. Kamala Harris. Barack Obama.

Okay, also Sarah Palin and Mike Pence. Which just goes to show that any generation isn’t all that. But hey, better branding because so little known. And why belong to a club of 20 million born over 20 years?

Good one, Susan! “Generation Jones” was coined by cultural commentator Jonathan Pontell. From Wikipedia: “The name ’Generation Jones’ has several connotations, including a large anonymous generation, a ‘keeping up with the Joneses’ competitiveness and the slang word ‘jones’ or ‘jonesing’, meaning a yearning or craving.” And there's a website! https://www.generationjones.com/

Funny how the site is not mobile-friendly. More like Boomer than Gen X. 😜

And as expected, a term created by marketers with mostly still-secret (except for a price) demographics.

Came here to make this same observation about the generational name, one that I think has a certain bitterness and a flavor of having missed out. Between that and the (let's say) unsavory connotations of "jonesing", "Jones" isn't a brand that resonates with me.

Jones just always seems like "fill in unobjectionable slightly folksy WASP-y name here." On a slightly different subject, how did someone who came up with such a great makeup line (Bobbi Brown) come up with such a crappy makeup line? (Jones Road). The two products I tried (not Miracle Balm) were useless.

I tried a JR eyeliner that was OK, but not better than a $12 eyeliner.

I bought a gorgeous eyeshadow that didn't stay on and made my eyes sting. The really pretty lipstick also faded quickly and dried out my lips. Just don't understand how the same person who created the amazing cream shadows (which Lauder removed from the line) could make such bad stuff. The money is going into advertising not R&D.

For the first time in my life, the palate/palette mistake led me not to annoyance but to vague thoughts of paletas. And it's not even hot where I live! Silver linings....aging...

My favorite Jones quote is from Hunter Thompson. When asked years later why he didn't go back to campaign reporting after the success of Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail, he said (as I remember and I'm not looking it up), "By that time I had too many friends named Jones."
