As native Californian (born at Oakland Naval Hospital, in fact), but transplanted to South Dakota for the last half of my life (so far), It's rather amazing how little snow it takes to make a blizzard. We've had them when the air temperature at ground level was above freezing--but temps aloft, and a lot of wind, can definitely ruin your day, or your drive.
